Jacksonville is a city in Onslow County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 United States census, the population stood at 70,145, which makes Jacksonville the 14th largest city in North Carolina. Jacksonville is the principal city of Onslow County and is included in the Jacksonville, North Carolina metropolitan area. In 2014, Forbes magazine ranked Jacksonville as the fifth fastest-growing small city in the United States. Demographically, Jacksonville is the youngest city in the United States with an average age of 22.8 years old, which can be attributed to the large military presence. The low age may also be in part due to the population drastically going up over the past 80 years, from a mere 783 in the 1930 census to 70,145 in the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Onslow County, and the home of the United States Marine Corps' Camp Lejeune and New River Air Station. Jacksonville is located adjacent to North Carolina's Southern Outer Banks (SOBX) area. On 21 June 2016, the City of Jacksonville, NC, became the first jurisdiction to adopt a paid holiday honoring the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution which made slavery in the United States and its territories illegal. The resolution of adoption targets the prevention of the modern slavery epidemic in the form of human trafficking, which includes forcing children to engage in labor, sex, and combat. In recognition of the history of African Americans (and remembering the Montford Point Marines who faced second class citizenship), Jacksonville honored their heritage and the enfranchisement their ancestors received from the 13th Amendment. The holiday (Freedom Day) will be celebrated on the second Monday in December, which will always fall between the dates of the states' ratification (6 December 1865) and Secretary of State's proclamation of the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (18 December 1865).     This database uses extensive Forms that have built to provide the quickest data entry possible for the user.

    Adam Mears, owner of STS contacted me to build an Access database for his client, The Snead Company, a commercial window supplier to the commercial construction industry.

    This Access database is web enabled with a SQL Server back end. Additionally it interacts with Sharepoint, providing light document management services. The Snead Company creates proposals for their clients using this Access database and then tracks the progress of those proposals to winning status (or dead status).

    Fixed and modifed an exiting Access database for an Association. This client manages their client invoicing and payments with an Access Database. They desired to share the database from home and work, so we migrated the data tables to a MySQL database in the cloud (Data Control Servers)

  • Routt County Alcohol Council
    The Council contacted us to upgrade their Access 97 database to the current version of Access. We have to first move the database into Access 2003, and then into Access 2019 (365). The was further complicated due to a workgroup information file protecting the Access 97 database and then advanced vba code that needed modification.

    We are frustrated that Microsoft does not provide a transparent upgrade path from Access 97 directly to Access 365 (or whatever current version of Access is out today). We are further frustrated that Access discontinues support of features such as workgroup information files, pivot tables/report, Access Data Projects. So clients are forced to contact consultants like Data Control. We realize the importance of your database and the dilemma you are in. So we try to fairly price the upgrade to the new version of Access hoping that we can get future development work from you.

    To get around the Workgroup Information File issue (the client had no documentation of this which is understandable considering the database is 20 years old and the original developer long gone), we opened a new Access 2003 database and imported all of the objects. This then allowed us to open the Access 2003 database in Access 2007 and perform the final upgrade steps.

    This particular database uses advanced VBA code and expected the data file to be in a particular position on the server. If the data file wasn't there, the reports didn't work. So we searched through the code removing this requirement. We also had to modify a few of the libraries

URS, a Fortune 500 Consulting Firm, contacted us to build an Access database for their client: United States Marine Corps: Camp Lejeune.

This Access Database tracks hunting on the Camp grounds through: Hunter Information Screen, License Screen, Violation Screen, and a Rank Maintenance screen. A Record of Sales Report can also be generated. Camp LeJeune is in North Carolina and is a Department of Defense, Military, Marine Corps URS is a prime vendor to the Federal Government and the Military Branches. This Access database helped this US Marine Corps base successfuly manage the land use of the base.
